An Artist's Palette with Creative Embellishments

I created this fun artist's palette for Creative Embellishments (CE).  The palette is CE chipboard just waiting for a transformation.  I painted the background with white gesso first.  Next I added Distress Oxide inks to give it lots of color.  Then some stenciling with white modeling paste.

After I was satisfied with the look of the background, I chose this CE Imagine Quote and heat embossed it with chunky white embossing emamel from Stampendous.

On the upper left I used a Pussy Willow chippy to layer underneath all my pretty Petaloo blooms.    I colored it with f Lindy's Starbust mists.  After the mists dried I added Distress Oxide inks.

At the bottom I've used Vintage Flourish 1, coloring it the same way I colored the pussy willow.

Cheery Lynn Window Shaker Card Kit

Cheery Lynn Designs has 2 new shaker card kits!  This window shaker that you see here (I think this is so fabulous) and a flower shaker that I'll share with you later on.  The shaker card kits come with 2 dies, foam, acetate and shaker pieces.  Everything you need except your design paper!

I do have a word of advice for you and that is to use a glue that is not so sticky and dries hard and quickly.  I used a sticky glue on this and some of my shakers stuck to the sides even though I allowed what I thought was an adequate drying time.

Underneath the window shaker I have layered Royal Scandinavian Boutique Stacker and 3 different sizes of the A2 Frames Rectangular Scalloped  frames.

The sentiment is stamped onto the small Pierced Stacker 3  frame.

The flowers are from the Floral Bouquet Kit 8 Piece Die Set and the leaves are Flourish Leaf Strip 5 Piece Die Set.  I also used the Ivy Corner Flourish Die under the flowers.

Honoring Earth Day with Recycled Graphic 45 tags.

I'm upcycling today in honor of Earth Day!  I've made two great shaker tags from Graphic 45's Washi tape packaging. I'll show you how to do that in my Snapguide. The plastic packaging is great because you can actually fit some Hershey's chocolate in the shaker. Now that's my kind of shaker!!

Now, if you don't have the packaging from Graphic 45's Washi Tape, don't despair, you can still make a great shaker tag using any of the tags from our Staples metal packaging.   Here's a link to a previous Snapguide where I illustrated how to make a shaker from nested dies. All you need to do is make a shaker and then glue it to your tag as I have done on the Born to be A Star tag, below.
This is one of the two tags I made from the washi tape packaging.  I love that the "shaker" is large enough to fill with chocolates!  What a fun surprise to give someone!

You could trim off the outer plastic edging but I didn't find it all that distracting and I thought it would look neater left on than what it would look like if I tried to trim it off.

This is the 2nd tag I made from the Washi tape packaging and I opted to used punched stars and beads in the shaker.

I glued trim to the outer plastic edge on this tag since the edge sticks above the surface of the tag on this one..

I made the fun stick pin to add some extra glam to my project.

And of course, I added some pretty Petaloo blooms to finish off my tag!

This tag is made from a Staples metal packaging tag.  I made the star shaker using a Cheery Lynn star shaker die set.
I always look to the cut-aparts or ephemera cards for the anchor piece of my tags and cards.

I fussy cut an image from the design paper and layered it over the star shaker, I like the way that looks!

A treasure Box for Petaloo

I love boxes in all sizes and shapes.  It pains me to throw them away and I have a big closet full of boxes in all sizes and shapes to support my box addiction! Just imagine how happy Mom or any gal would be to receive a special gift encased in this box.

This is a new Graphic 45 Staples Deep Rectangle Matchbook Box that I covered with Graphic 45's Portrait of a Lady collection and embellished with Petaloo's Botanica blooms. These coral blooms are so pretty with these papers.

I used dimensional foam tape to pop up layers on the top of the box.  Notice how in the upper left corner I nestleds my Petaloo blooms over printed flowers in the design paper.  This helps to give the printed flowers the illusion of dept and makes the floral cluster appear larger.

I also added some Cheery Lynn Designs flourishes to my floral clusters, I think they add a special touch to my clusters.

I kept the sides simple letting the top have all the glory! You know, sometimes less is more, right?  I used some fun drawer pulls on either end of the box to make it more functional.

Don't you love how the flowers cascade over the side?  The inside drawer is also covered; however,  I did not cover the drawer on the outside so that it would easily slide in and out of the box.

Cheery Lynn new flower shaker card kit!

Cheery Lynn Designs has great shaker card kits and today I'm sharing a new one with you. I love the flower shape of this shaker. It's big enough that you can frame an image inside your shaker as I have done.

This card is a meeting of summer and winter.  I have masked some snowflakes on the background but because I am seriously longing for warm weather and spring, I decided to go with flowers!

I made the large flower using the Sweet Williams Die  and the two smaller flowers were made with the  Indie Bouquet - 6 Die Set from the Bohemian Collection.

Underneath the rhinestone swirls I used Flourish #4 Die - CAFLRS4.  I think the swirls on top give this card a nice flair.

Creative Embellishments cross promo with Petaloo!

Woo hoo Creative Embellishments is hopping with one of my favorite companies this week and that's Petaloo flowers and we're celebrating one of the most special persons around, Moms!

This is my Mom, it's an old photo from 1993, you can tell bythose big glasses she's wearing!  I used a Circle Vine Frame place the emphasis on my photo.  Then I surrounded Mom with beautiful Petaloo Darjeeling blooms.  The large ones are anemones.  These are some of my favorites!  I've also use some blue rosettes and dahlias.

To make my flowers really stand out and give them an air of realism I've tucked in pieces of fern from our Fern Foliage 2 set.  I just dabbled a bit of Lindy's Gator Gumbo olive on them for color.

Across the bottom I used Lace Border 1 and topped that with more Petaloo blooms. I heat embossed this and all the other chippy pieces with Stampendous Aged Ivory embossing enamel.  I love its vintage look with the flecks of gold in it.

Creative Embellishments has a great Mother Word Set and I used the word Mom from that set.  She is my super Mom that's for sure.  My Dad was in the Army and Mom was often left at home with 3 children while Dad was out of the country, sometimes for a year at the time.

A Graphic 45 box, no wait it's a hat!

It's a hat!

No wait, it's a box! Really, it's both. I've take a 4" cylindrical box and made it look like a lady's fine hat! It's no secret that I love to make hats; you've probably seen a few of my hats on the Graphic 45 blog in the last two years. But I thought that my hats need to have a purpose so I designed this hat to serve as a gift box. It would make a great gift - how about some pretty jewelry inside for Mom on Mother's Day? Or some chocolates, I know that my Mom would love that!

The fun part about making hats is that you can let your imagination just go wild with the embellishments.  You can make it elegant, feminine, silly with "stuff" all over it, it's a great platform for doing whatever you want.

I chose some gorgeous Petaloo Botanicas and Textured flowers to adorn my hat.  I wanted something ultra feminine so I added LOTS of flowers.

Petaloo cross promo with Creative Embellishments

The design teams from Petaloo and Creative Embellishments (CE) have teamed up to bring you a week of Mother's Day fabulous projects using Petaloo flowers and Creative Embellishments chipboard.  It doesn't get much better than that as far as I am concerned!

I chose to honor on a "different" kinda Mom, but still a Mom.  For so many of us, myself included, our furbabies are our children and we are their Moms.  My furbabies know that I am Mom and if my husband tells my dogs that "Mom's home", they go running to the back door.  I adore this photo of Maria Cole and her sweet dog Archie.  The look that is passing between them is so special.  It really illustrates the bond between dogs and their human parents.

I love to layer chipboard vines and flourishes underneath my Petaloo blooms, that is such a great look.  I colored my chippies with some gold mist and then lightly dry brushed white paint onto the chippies and the flowers.

I used Petaloo Darjeeling blooms on my layout, they are some of my favorites.  I've used dahlias, rosetes and little minis along with a couple butterflies, all from the Darjeeling collection.

In addition to chipboard, Creative Embellishments sells masks, wood veneers and stamps. I used a CE pawprint mask on the background of this layout, its just the touch I wanted.

April Creative Embellishments challenge

It's all about spring this month for the Creative Embellishments challenge.  Above is the inspiration photo and I took my inspiration from the word spring and the fuschia colors.

I created this layout of some pretty flowers at the Golden Gate Bridge park.  I am anxiously waiting that kind of weather!

In the corners I embellished with Photo or Page Corners Set 1. I used Ranger Antiquities Weathered White embossing powder to color the chipboard.  It has a rough texture that looks old and weathered.  Perfect for a shabby chic layout.

Underneath my flowers I used Vintage Flourish Set 3 colored with the same powder as the corner flourishes.
My pretty Petaloo blooms look so nice layered over the flourishes, I love this look.

Crafting Tips with Graphic 45

I'll be at a retreat later this year and I've asked all the participants to swap a page for my mini with me.  Won't that be just so fun and I think I'll have the best mini ever with all that talent in one book from so many people!  I used  the Times Nouveau DCE for my cover and I think the image of the classy ladies is perfect.  I have a "thing" for all the G45 buttons so I've used that as part of my cover too.

I've recorded a video for you of how I made my cover and I'm sharing some inking tips.  I'll also show you how to make your cover more durable, line up your letters, and the easy way to glue metal embellishments so they stay where you want them.

I'll show you how to get your letters lined up straight in my video.
