Graphic 45's Little Women Collection

How well I remember being mesmerized by the Louisa May Alcott's Little Women book series.  I didn't have a lot of friends as a child but I always had my books for friends and this was a fave!

I was thrilled when Graphic 45 memorialized the story with their new release, Little Women.  The colors in this collection are just so pretty, bright and bold, but still vintage.

Take a journey with me in this video where I'll give you a flip through tour  of all the pages in my mini.

I made a cute dangle for the spine by threading beads and a G45 Shabby Chic Metal Key Hole onto wire.

I made the journal cover using Eileen Hull Design's Journal Die by Sizzix.  It is such a fun die and perfect for making Midori styled journals.

You can place so many photos in this journal. There are lots of  tuck spots, tags and pull outs where you can record your memories along with your photos.

There are 3 signature inserts and each one is designed for holding photos and journaling.

Tip: Save your scraps and use them to decorate the small tags in your minis. Add interest to your minis by adding unexpected elements like policy envelopes and odd shaped papers.  At the back of the 3rd signature, I bound in a G45 policy envelope as an extra special place to hide something!

Heritage layout for Creative Embellishments

My favorite chippies are flourishes and Creative Embellishments has a beautiful assortment of them.  I love to use them under floral clusters as I've done here.  Here I've combined pretty swirly flourishes with Stamperia's Time is an Illusion paper collection.

In the upper corners I've used Flourish Corner 2 set and heat embossed them with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Powder.  Yep, that's my go-to color, and I do use it quite often.  It just works so well with vintage layouts.

Here's a really great view of the Flourish Corner 2.  You can see the different layers I creater here too, I tucked some slip lace in between layers and even sewed them in.  I don't often use my sewing machine but I thought this layout called for it!

At the bottom I used Vintage Flourish Set 2, also heat embossed with  Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Powder.

I used the legacy word from the Heritage Word Set and heat embossed it with Stampendous Aged Marine Embossing Ename for my title.

Some older Prima flowers and vines finished off my look.

Happy St Patrick's Day Tags!

Here are a couple of tags that I made for Creative Embellishments to wish you a Happy St Patrick's Day.  I think everyone is a little bit Irish on that day!

I started by stenciling some shamrocks with the Shamrock Stencil on the green background.  Then I added a couple pieces of torn patterned paper and layered them on the tag.

Next, I used Prima Raspberry Pie Chalk Ink to ink up the  Paint Splats and Drips and a circle from the Grunge Circles set. Then I sprinkled on clear embossing powder and heat set to give the chippies a shiny finished appearance.  After adhering my chipboard pieces, I added stickers from the collection and lace around the outer edge of the tag.

The 2nd tag is a tag within a tag.  The smaller tag is a great place to write a hidden message.

I used a frame from the Scribble Frames 2 set and just colored it with some Lindy's Mist.

The frame is fitted around a cut-apart from the paper collection and is popped up with foam layered over an embossed pink cardstock.  I adhered the cardstock just around the edges so that a smaller tag could be tucked inside.  At the bottom I used a piece from the Paint Splats and Drips set.

Get Organized with Eileen Hull Dies by Sizzix and a tutorial

Hi crafty friends, if you're like me you are always struggling to stay organized and keep things where you can find them.  I am constantly looking for a notepad, so I made this handy little organizer to help me keep up with my notepads.  If you scroll on down a bit, I've put together a picture step by step tutorial for you!

This little note organizer is made with dies from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix is just what you need next to the phone or on your craft table!  In one little unit, you've got pens and notepads in the Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer  and scratch paper in the Notebook Pocket.  I'm going to keep this on my craft table because I always need a little note pad handy to keep track of the supplies I use.  AND I always have small offcuts of paper to put in the Notebook Pocket.
I used two dies to create the two storage units, the Sizzix Scoreboards XL Die - Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer and the Notebook Pocket.  In the back of the Organizer box you can see a pencil holder which is a little extra bit I added to the box 'cause I needed this box to nicely hold my pens too!
Here's a view from the other side where you can see the Notebook Pocket.  I love making journals and I use a lot of 8.5" x 11" paper in doing so.  That means that I end up with a lot of off cuts that really are a good size for scribbling a quick note or doing a computation.  I needed somewhere to store these bits of paper and the Notebook Pocket is just what I needed.  You can see that I've filled it with odd shaped strips of paper off cuts.

I embellished the front of the organizer box with masked on vines and a couple simple flowers that I made with the Bookmark, Tag & Pocket die set.

On the opposite side, on the Notebook Pocket I added a bookplate from the Bookplate, Hinges & Label set along with another flower made with the Bookmark, Tag & Pocket die set.  At the very top of the bookplate, I added a floral arch from the Floral Arch & Words set.

Tim Holtz Memoranda Paper Pad 12 x 12

Step 1:
First we'll make the organizer that I am using to hold notepads with the Eileen Hull Designs Sizzix Scoreboards XL Die - Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer

Step 2:
I used Sizzix Little Sizzles - 6" x 13" Mat Board Pack to make my organizer as it is already cut to 6" x 12" which is a perfect size to work with the XL dies.   However, you can also use medium weight mat or  chipboard.  I recommend using adhesive sheets to apply the design paper to the chipboard.  I buy 12 x 12" sheets and cut to 6" x 12".  Cover the mat board with an adhesive sheet and burnish it down so that the adhesive does not pull up when you remove the protective liner.  Now place your design paper cut to 6" x 12"  over the adhesive and press down.  No need to burnish as it will be burnished down after die cutting.  If you want your organizer to have paper on both the out and in sides, put paper on both sides of the mat board.  Place the paper that you want on the outside of your box facing down on the die.

Now run the die through your machine.

Step 3:
You should have these 4 pieces die cut.  We will not use the little piece that comes out of the label holder.

Step 4:
Set the pieces aside from the previous step.  Now cut a piece of design paper and a piece of lightweight cardboard (such as what comes in shirt packaging) or heavy cardstock slightly larger than  3" x 4 1/2".   Adhere the paper to the cardboard or cardstock with adhesive sheets and then trim down to 3" x 4 1/2".  Score lengthwise at 3/4", 1 1/2", and 2 1/4".  Fold into a square as shown in the 2nd photo and use a piece of washi tape to hold it together in a square shape.

Step 5:
Ink the edges and do some masking on the body of the organizer if you wish.

Step 6:
Die cut 3 sets of  flowers using the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookmark, Tag & Pocket.  Cut between the petals on the two larger flowers as shown in the first photo.  Using tweezers, give each petal a twist to create some depth.  Assemble the flowers, stacking the smaller flowers on top of the larger flowers and using a brad to hold them together as shown in the 2nd photo.  Set the 3rd flower aside for use on the Notebook Pocket.

Step 7:
Now let's assemble the organizer.  Place Scor-tape along the back of the square cylinder prepared in step 4 and press into place along the inside spine of the organizer as shown in the 2nd photo.  Be sure to place the Scor-tape on the side with the tape so that when you adhere it to the box, the washi tape will not show.

Step 8:
Fold the tabs in on the bottom of the box and place Scor-tape or glue on the tabs.   Adhere to the bottom of the box which is the rectangle we die cut in step 1.

Step 9:
When assembled, it should look like this:

Step 10:
Rub the edges and masked design with  Prima Mettalique Wax.  I used Bronze Age and Vintage Gold.  Die cut a scalloped circle with the large scalloped die from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label die set and adhere where shown in the first photo.  Then adhere two flowers made in step 6 over the scalloped circle offsetting towards the bottom as shown in the 2nd photo.

Step 11:
For the next step we'll be using the Notebook Pocket.  Follow Step 2 above to adhere and diecut the paper for the Notebook Pocket pictured below.

Step 12:
After die-cutting the pocket, ink all the edges.  Fold along all the score lines and place Scor-tape on the flaps.

Step 13:
Fold the narrow flap up and adhere to the flaps.  Place brads in the holes at the top to help hold the flap in place.

Step 14:
Die cut a bookplate from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label die set.
Select an image to fit inside the bookplate .  Adhere the bookplate in the center of the Notebook Pocket and adhere the image inside the bookplate.  Lightly rub Prima wax around the edges.  Assemble the 3rd flower from Step 6 if not already done so.

Step 15:
Line up the Notebook Pocket and the Organizer and mark the side of the Organizer on the  Notebook Pocket as shown in the photo.  Place Scor-tape up to the marked line.  I found that Scor-tape was not securely holding the two pieces together, probably because of the masking, so I added glue over top the Scor-tape.

Step 16:
Adhere the Notebook pocket to the Organizer.  If you have used liquid adhesive, use rubberbands to hold eevrything in place while the glue sets up.

That's it all finished.  Put some pencils in the pencil holder, a memo pad in the organizer and loose notesheets in the Notebook Pocket.

Thanks so much for joining me today!

New Challenge at Creative Embellishments

Time for another photo inspiration challenge at Creative Embellishments.  Our challenges are so fun because you can do any type of project and you could WIN a gift certificate to the CE shop!  All the details about our challenges are on the CE blog in the first post at the top.

The inspiration photo this month is a John William Waterhouse painting and it inspired me so much that I decided to use it as the focal point on the box that I altered.  We always have a twist with our challenges, and this month it's to use roses.  That's pretty easy for me as I find it really hard NOT to use flowers and I've used Petaloo's Fairy Rose Buds on this box.

I've recorded a video tutorial for making this box.

Some of my favorite products in the CE store are the flourishes and I've used two styles on my box.
In the corners on the top, I've used the Flourish Page Corner set underneath my roses.  I used my go to product, Stampendous Aged Embossing Enamels - Taupe, to finish off the flourishes.  I love how the flourishes look peaking out from under the flowers.

The papers I used are from Graphic 45's new collection, Little Women and the box is the Deep Square Matchbook Box from the Graphic 45 Staples line.

On the sides of the box I used Flourish Set 19 and heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel.

The box has a drawer that pulls out and there's plenty of room inside for a mini album or a collection of cards.

Creative Embellishments Layout with Graphic 45 Sun Kissed

It's that time of the year when I think many of us are suffering from the winter blues and yearning for summer.  This layout will definitely make you forget about winter, if only for a moment.

I've combined some great chippies from Creative Embellishments (CE) with Graphic 45's new Sun Kissed paper collection.  I mixed tan acrylic paint and gold glitter with Prima's White Sand Texture Paste to create my sandy beach.  I anchored CE's seagrass chippies stained with Lindy's Starburst mists in the sand.  Over on the right is a cute little chipboard crab nestled in amongst the navy Little Birdie flowers.

The photo is framed with a chipboard Steampunk Chain Frame that is heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Marine Embossing Enamel.  The frame also comes with gears that I buried in the sand.  They get their rusty look from Lindy's Starburst Mist.
